Reporting to the Quality Assurance Supervisor, the Calibration Technician is responsible for calibrating and maintaining the Argus in-house calibration system, ensuring measurement instruments, gauges and testing devices are correctly calibrated to provide accurate measurement readings, and supporting the setup of premium gauges.

What You’ll Do

Role accountabilities include, but are not limited to: 

  • Calibrate measuring instruments, thread gauges, optical projectors, phosphate tanks, stress relievers and torque machines as required.
  • Maintain, clean, adjust and mechanical repairs to common measurement devices if practical.
  • Maintain in-house calibration systems.
  • Full understanding of maintaining calibration traceability to National Standards.
  • Source and procure instruments, gauges, etc. required by the Quality department, with appropriate approvals.
  • Schedule outsourced equipment calibration.  Review and file certificates. Enter calibration information into GageMaker’s CERTIFI system.
  • Support Machinists and QC with setup of premium gauges to required specifications and standards.
  • Update and/or create work instructions as required for calibration of instruments.
  • Record time and switch codes on the Blue Terminal.
  • Provide general QA and shop assistance as required.
  • Maintain the calibration lab's cleanliness, appearance, organization and room temperature. 

What You Bring

  • 3+ years’ experience calibrating measuring equipment is preferred.
  • Previous calibration experience using GageMaker’s MIC TRAC system is considered an asset.
  • Previous experience calibrating thread gauges such as API 5B, 7-2 and straight thread gauges such as UN and ACME/Stub ACME, etc., would be preferred.
  • Working knowledge of GageMaker’s TDWin program would be beneficial.
  • Ability to read and understand drawings/blueprints and select the appropriate measuring instruments.
  • Ability to measure accurately and precisely to the nearest 0.0001”
  • High School diploma required.
  • Meet vision examination requirements of ASNT spec SNT-TC-1A.
  • Working knowledge of all required measuring instruments, optical comparator, work instructions and Licensor specifications.
  • Demonstrated ability to read, calibrate and operate measuring instruments in a manufacturing environment.
  • Working knowledge of computer software including Microsoft Office Suite, Microsoft AX and Adobe preferred.
  • Knowledge of safe work practices, Quality Assurance requirements, and Continuous Improvement (Lean Manufacturing) principles.

Where You’ll Work

  • Machine shop/calibration lab environment with extended walking/standing and limited sitting. 
  • Working wearing personal protective equipment 100% of work time.
  • Lifting regularly up to 40 lbs. without mechanical assistance.
