Overview

Are you looking for a rewarding career with opportunities for advancement? Are you interested in, full time, indoor and outdoor work in a city setting? Lafarge has immediate openings for  Concrete Pipe Labourers to join our Pipe operation in Calgary.  Pipe Labourers are responsible for aiding in all areas of the plant.  They are responsible for collecting materials, removing Pallets and Headers from Pipe, setting up forms under supervision and basic concrete placing. They participate in housekeeping and other various tasks throughout the plant. A high level of safety practices must be used at all times.

Responsibilities:

  • Receive oral instructions to determine work assignments.
  • Perform physical activities that require considerable use of your arms and legs and moving your whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling of materials.
  • Finish concrete products
  • Transport raw materials, finished products and equipment throughout the plant manually or using powered equipment.
  • Assist machine operators, crane operators and other workers.
  • Assist with minor repairs and maintenance.
  • Remove rubble and other debris.
  • Clean and remove excess debris from molds and other equipment.
  • Participate in daily Pre-Production Meetings.
  • Complete Field Level Risk Assessments before beginning each task.

Qualifications and qualities:

  • These positions require someone who is Safety Conscious.
  • Concrete experience would be an asset
  • Forklift experience would be an asset

Compensation

  • $24.45 per hour based on skills and qualifications. Includes full benefits and a company pension after three months of employment.

Education

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required Post-secondary degree, diploma, trade certificate, etc. preferred
  • Specific Certification

  • Good communication skills
  • Comfortable and capable of working at heights
  • Demonstrates commitment to safety for oneself and others
  • Mechanical aptitude
  • Time and self-management skills as part of a team or independently
  • Demonstrate strong skills in problem-solving, decision making and multi-tasking
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Computer literacy: including Excel, Word programs a benefit
  • Willing to work overtime and shifts when needed including Saturdays
