Your Opportunity at SECURE

As our Field Quality Specialist, you will be responsible for maintaining and advancing the Quality Compliance Program (QCP). In this fast-paced role, you will ensure the safe handling and optimization of inbound and outbound crude streams at our facilities, with a focus on mitigating commercial risk at the field level.

The Team

Our Crude Oil Quality team act as a vital link between Measurement, Logistics, Volumetric Accounting, Crude Oil Marketing, and Operations—driving collaboration to maintain and elevate SECURE’s quality systems. We're here to ensure consistent product quality, reduce risk, and support field teams with the expertise needed to optimize performance across the board.

Work Environment

This full-time, permanent position is based in Whitecourt, Alberta and requires 40 hours per week in an in-office setting.

A Day in The Life

The responsibilities of this role include but are not limited to:

  • Act as the primary point of contact for SECURE’s Quality Compliance Program (QCP), supporting continuous improvement through facility training and the development of QCP chapters.

Assist the Lead Quality/Optimization Specialist in creating and implementing SOPs in alignment with QCP and ASTM methods for field operations.

Serve as the Commercial Blend Champion, optimizing diluent utilization and injection ratios in collaboration with Crude Oil Marketing.

Mentor Facility Quality Champions and Operations teams, promoting high-performance blending practices and QCP knowledge across the field.

Ensure compliance with regulatory standards for measurement devices and product quality within pipeline systems, while conducting and maintaining critical quality analytics checks.

Lead the rollout and training for Blending SOPs to support Midstream Infrastructure practices and foster field-wide adoption.

Act as the field liaison for blend plans, support measurement audits, assist with Job Task Observations (JTOs), and contribute to quality-related investigations and incident resolution.

Support data reporting and performance tracking by maintaining key metrics, including diluent usage, C4 utilization, TVP testing, density and sulfur targets, and contamination volumes.

Skills, Experience & Qualifications

The individual in this role will have:

  • 3-5 years of previous experience within the Oil & Gas industry
  • Prior knowledge of ASTM quality determination and testing methods
  • Strong understanding of crude oil chemistry and ASTM hydrocarbon test methods
  • Knowledge of sampling systems; API 8.2
  • Experience with lab setup and understanding of workflow requirements
  • Direct experience with crude oil quality determinations
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint)
  • Ability to interface with multiple facility managers, perform audit functions, and compile reports based on findings
  • Strong relationship building skills, and customer service oriented with the ability to maintain contacts across internal teams and external regulators, vendors, and contractors
  • Ability to influence others through explanation of facts, policies and practices
  • Ability to teach and communicate effectively across various platforms to achieve targets
  • Willingness to travel, work flexible hours, and be on call to respond to infractions as needed
  • Results focused individual who thrives in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to make decisions with financial impact in mind
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work under pressure while meeting strict deadlines
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Team player who enjoys continuous learning
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision

The following are considered assets in this role:

  • Diploma in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering, or equivalent training is considered an asset
