JOB SUMMARY

Floorhands are primarily responsible for handling drilling equipment on the drilling rig floor and keeping the rig and location clean and orderly.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Assists the other crewmembers in their duties, including maintenance and repair of rig equipment, and he/she is a general all-around worker on the rig. There are usually two Floorhands on a crew, although smaller rigs may have only one. This is a manual labour position that involves making connections on the rig floor to connect and disconnect pipe smoothly and efficiently, assist with casing, and general housekeeping around the rig site.
  • Be prepared to work on a rotating shift schedule that operates twenty-four hours a day
  • Be able to work safely and quickly, and think ahead to the next procedure
  • Be in good physical condition (strength, coordination and agility are necessary)
  • Enjoy working as a member of a team and mentoring fellow crew members new to the rig
  • Committed to working remote operations involving camps, when required

  • Mechanical inclination

BEHAVIORAL COMPETENCIES

  • Proven ability to work safely and work with team members
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to mentor less mechanically inclined personnel new to the rig

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Previous labour experience and/or experience as a floorhand (oil and gas industry preferred)
  • Associated training tickets for region and activity. These may include, but are not limited to: H2S Certification, First Aid, Common Safety Orientations
  • Ensign’s HR/HSE Induction and assigned training per Regional Training Matrix
  • Any client specific training for site access

Other

  • Business Ethics – Fully understands Ensign’s ethics policy and its application in all business dealings including contractual agreements and contract negotiations.
  • Health and Safety – Fully understands the Ensign Health and Safety policy and self-responsibility for his/her own health and safety at work.  Responsible to avoid adversely affecting the health and safety of others through any act or omission.
  • Responsible for the correct use protective clothing and equipment as provided by Ensign and for guarding against misuse or damage to such equipment
  • Responsible for reporting any hazardous situations arising in the workplace that cannot be self-corrected, or injury incurred during the course of work, no matter how minor
  • Responsible for avoiding injury resulting from manual handling tasks associated with his/her employment, by use of risk assessment, correct mechanical handling equipment and correct manual handling technique
