Overview:
 

The Operations Manager sits on the leadership team of NAB Pipe.  This role supports commercial excellence and operational performance for the business. The successful candidate will improve operational performance by providing leadership and support to the plant operations to achieve all targets, budgets, objectives, and goals focused on safety, productivity, and quality. The Operations Manager supports the business' commercial objectives through focusing on high quality customer service.

Key Responsibilities:
          
Safety
•    Lead Plant efforts for a safe and environmentally-responsible culture.
•    Develop and maintain appropriate training programs.
•    Lead monthly combined operation safety meetings.
•    Oversee development, implementation, and maintenance of safe work procedures.
•    Develop, maintain and encourage a safety culture for both employees and on-site contractors.
•    Maintain new hire and contractor orientation procedures.
•    Zero lost time accidents and medical aids.
•    Responsible for results of safety and environmental audits/inspections.


Operational Performance
•    Supervise daily operations of the concrete pipe plant
•    Develop culture of an engaged, performance-minded workforce
•    Develop leadership skills of supervisors and lead hands
•    Project Management of plant improvement and capital projects
•    Ensure the operation meets the highest practical aesthetic standard
•    Establish and manage productivity targets to measure/manage performance
•    Develop and implement process improvements that increases operational efficiency
•    Performance management of all plant staff
•    New product development
•    Coordinate ordering to maintain appropriate raw material inventory. Ensure products meet standards set by QC/Technical/Engineering teams
•    Develop, implement, and ensure preventative maintenance program is in place
 

Commercial Excellence
•    Understand customers’ product and business requirements based on quality of products and services.
•    Lead team to work with sales to understand and exceed customer demand.


Budgets & Reporting
•    Assist in the development of all budgets, targets, strategies, and objectives and work towards the same.
•    Assist in the preparation of monthly production activity reports and provide accurate explanations for production and spend relative to financial statements.
•    Understanding of costs and cost drivers for the operation.  Responsible to appropriately control spend.
•    Assist in the financial justification of capital allocation requests.


Relationships with others/jobs:

•    Reports to the Manager of NAB Pipe.
•    Works closely with Sales team, QC team, Technical/Engineering team, and Operations Managers from other Lafarge operations.
•    Reporting directly to this position are: Production leads, Maintenance lead and Operations Admin.
•    Work co-operatively with Union Representatives.


Specific Accountabilities
•    Safety:  performance objective is “Zero” injuries or incidents
•    Productivity:  timely, efficient, cost effective operation
•    Quality:  production to specifications laid out by engineering/QC team
•    Leadership:  establish positive working culture and an engaged, motivated workforce.  Train, inspire, and develop plant supervisors and hourly employees 

Qualification Profile

Education and Work Experience:
•    Engineering Degree or Certified Engineering Technology Diploma
•    Five (5) years related experience in an Operations capacity
•    Proven ability to manage and supervise a staff of 50+ employees
