
Position: Drilling Engineer
Job Summary:
The Drilling Engineer is responsible for providing engineering support to the Drilling Operations and engineering group. This position is planned and executed as per CCL, Client and government Policies and Standards and regulatory requirements.
Responsibility:
·Planning and programming drilling operations safely, cost effectively and in compliance with all applicable regulatory requirements.
·Prepare accurate programs, along with detailed and accurate cost estimates for lump sum proposals.
·Complete detailed area reviews, analyze offset well data and new technologies to develop optimized drilling techniques and drilling designs.
·Prepare and present peer reviews on area development and well designs.
·Review well files to generate drilling history.
· Work in conjunction with and provide leadership to asset teams to effectively design, plan and budget projects.
·Manage timing and scheduling of drilling projects and communicate information to management, vendors and all disciplines involved throughout the project.
·Provide support during drilling operations and assist the Operations Superintendent with daily operations, planning and vendor performance analysis.
·Complete project reviews and lookbacks to evaluate the effectiveness of projects to optimize current and future projects.
·Document and implement learning events and incorporate into future projects.
·Stay current with drilling technology to ensure timely and effective application of technology.
·Assist SCM specialists to prepare the drilling services & materials purchase requirement.
·Available to travel to the field on a scheduled basis.
·Responsible for determining the best way to drill oil or gas well, while ensuring that drilling process is safe, efficient and minimal disruption to the environment.
·Assist Drilling Manager as required.
·Ensure major trouble time events are well documented and shared with the Drilling Team.
·Perform offset research prior to the spud of each drilling location and ensure well design is aligned with COSL engineering standards.
·Create cost estimate and drilling program for each new well drilled.
·Work in unison with Drilling Superintendent to ensure wells are executed as per the Drilling Program.
·Ensure Drilling Supervisors in the field are capturing costs and info correctly within daily reports.
·Ensure major trouble time events are well documented and shared with the Drilling Team.
Experience & Skills:
·5 to 10 years of relevant drilling engineering and/or drilling operations experience.
·Professional license in engineering
·Current, good standing membership with APEGA
·Strong project management, communication, organization, and time management skills.
·Ability to interact and contribute with a multi-disciplinary asset team.
·Strong oral and written communication skills;
·Experience with SAGD Drilling Operations (not necessary, but preffered).
·Knowledge of safety regulations
·Computer software skills: excel, word, power point, Landmark/Compass, Wellview, Petrosight
·Effective communication, problem solving abilities and strong technical skills
·Working knowledge of casing design, torque and drag, anti-collision, well control and MPD
·Working knowledge of AER Directives
Working Conditions:
In the office.
Occationally vist in the field.
Required Tickets:
·Prior to Agreement: APEGA Membership
·Prior to Field Visit: Valid Class 5 Driver's Licence, Petroleum Safety Training, Standard First Aid w/CPR C & AED, H2S, WHIMIS, TDG, Valid 5 Panel Alcohol and Drug test (qualified lab test, not POCT test), BSO/CSO
