Objective

  • This position's main objective is to manage the Process Department to deliver optimal process performance while ensuring that safety, environmental, quality and cost targets are continuously met and improved upon.

Responsibilities

Safety:

  • Serve as a role model in safety, environmental stewardship, leadership, teamwork, customer focus, and continuous improvement to ensure alignment with the company’s vision and critical success factors.

Process:

  • Monitor the process performance of the entire plant daily and define corrective actions with the Maintenance, Production, and Quality departments.
  • Optimize plant equipment (Quarry to Finish Mills) performance as measured through KPIs (e.g., PRI, NAI, MTBF’s, STEC, HLC, etc.) over the short, mid, and long term.
  • Ensure the raw mix, clinker, and cement production conform to quality and production demands.
  • Define an audit plan and supervise the audits to detect irregularities and find potential improvements.
  • Develop product and manufacturing improvement proposals, present cost justifications for these and other capital improvements to the Plant Manager, and ensure compliance.  
  • Develop and implement optimization plans/proposals with the Production Manager, Maintenance Manager, and Environment Coordinator, as well as proposals regarding automation.
  • Develop training and improvement initiatives for the department to meet both short and long-term plant goals Provided support and direction to process engineers and technical support for production operators.
  • Conduct and assign process inspections and performance reviews daily. Identify and conduct studies, audits, tests and measurements within the Process department to improve performance.
  • Ensure audits and studies are documented and shared. Contribute to fuel cost optimization (optimization of lowest fuel cost) by ensuring (optimizing) process conditions that allow maximum utilization of alternative fuel and raw materials.
  • Identify actions targeting the reduction of overall plant power consumption.
  • Identify and prepare for mid and long-term process and environmental improvement needs.
  • Ensure the existence and correctness of process-related Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Foster an awareness of process requirements within all departments.
  • Liaise with other department heads to ensure that the safety, maintenance, process, quality, environment, and administrative aspects of the operation are meeting the plant objectives
  • Participate in developing periodic forecasts of manufacturing efficiencies, costs and profits (budgets, weekly and daily production runs) and reviewing daily the plant operating performances to ensure adherence to corporate technical plans, quality standards, and optimum production practices.

Quality:

  • Support quality control and quality assurance of cement produced at the plant.
  • Together with the Quality Manager, interfaces with raw material suppliers to ensure specifications are met.
  • Participate in the activities of the Quality department in support of plant initiatives and objectives.
  • Provide daily Process instructions for Production and Quality Departments.
  • Keep abreast of the current plant processing operations and procedures and their impact on product quality.
  • Stay aware of technical developments (new products) and ensure that appropriate changes are implemented.
  • Familiarize yourself with and support the plant's ISO 9001 Quality Management System, including being aware of any specific duties outlined in the program.

  • Plant annual Capacity: 1,300,000 tons of cement

  • Areas: 2 crushers, 1 raw mill, 1 silica mill, 1 kiln, 2 finish mill / 1 dock


Specific Accountabilities:

  • Holding a leadership position on a plant Team Based Safety team.
  • Promotion and implementation of safe work practices and procedures.
  • Developing direct reports in terms of knowledge and abilities.
  • Establishing process targets to ensure the requirements of environmental regulations are continuously met. 
  • Optimization of plant equipment performance through establishing, monitoring and adjusting (as required) process targets. 
  • Adhering to product quality standards. 
  • Ensure that the plant operations are carried out in line with the present environmental regulations. and that the supervisors are aware of all aspects of environmental law pertaining to the operation.


Qualification Profile

  • Bachelor of Engineering degree (Chemical, Industrial or similar).
  • At least five years of cement manufacturing experience. 
  • Excellent knowledge of cement technology and manufacturing process.
  • Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to interact with plant and regional personnel.
  • Ability to work on many tasks simultaneously while keeping excellent organizational skills. 
  • Solid computer skills.
  • Strong communicator (both oral & written).
  • Highly motivated with the ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Demonstrated commitment to achieving organizational and personal goals.
  • Proven ability to work well in a team environment (co-workers, suppliers, etc.). 
  • Well organized and systematic.
