
Quality Control Technician - Asphalt

Overview:
The Quality Control Technician - Asphalt, reporting to the Quality Control Supervisor for the Greater Vancouver Area, is responsible for carrying out aggregates and asphalt mix sampling, laboratory and field testing from crushers, stockpiles, plant sites and road construction sites throughout the Lower Mainland and Fraser Valley. In this role, you will be exposed to all operations related to Quality Control and are therefore expected to take on greater responsibilities as you develop within this position.
Responsibilities:
Test asphalt and aggregate to ensure product quality.
Evaluate material properties for use in asphalt production.
Troubleshoot problems on project sites and at plants, including field investigations.
Optimize asphalt production procedures.
Analyze and design asphalt mix designs.
Research and develop new asphalt products.
Provide technical service to enhance our customers’ operations.
Resolve regular customer product problems.
Act as a continual liaison with plant and suppliers to monitor product(s) and consult on quality.
Participate in resolution of long term product development and product problems.
Ensure a safe workplace and maintain safety policies to ensure work is done safely and in protection of the public.
Demonstrate a commitment to a safe work environment. Understands the safety objectives of the organization and supports these efforts in a visible manner.
Maintain a working knowledge of safety policies and regulations to ensure duties of self and others are performed in a safe manner.
Qualifications:
Education:
Grade 12 Diploma
Completion of Certified Engineering Technician program, Civil Technology Diploma or Civil Engineering degree
Or 2 – 3 years related experience
Experience:
Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.
Positive, responsible individual capable of working effectively with limited supervision
Team player with good interpersonal skills and a willingness to learn.
Able/willing to perform physical work in a construction environment.
High attention to detail is required.
Excellent analytical and organizational skills.
Strong computer knowledge (Ex: Microsoft Office - Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Access).
Valid BC Drivers License is required along with a reliable means of transportation
