Your Opportunity at SECURE
The Short Haul Driver is responsible for performing vehicle maintenance and inspections, delivering exceptional customer service, loading and unloading waste, and ensuring efficient and timely operations. They also follow all safety protocols and regulations while proactively addressing any issues that may occur during transit.
A Day in The Life
The responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to:
- Safe Operation of Equipment: Operate roll-off hook trucks and trailers, as well as moffet trucks and trailers, in a safe and responsible manner. Ensure loads are properly secured and remain within legal load limits, while navigating various weather conditions and challenging job site environments
- Regulatory Compliance & Inspections: Adhere to all applicable site and jurisdictional traffic safety laws. Conduct thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections of transport units and loads in accordance with jurisdictional and NSC standards. Accurately complete all required labels, including shipping name, generator name, approval number, TDG class, UN number, packing group number, load number, and related information
- Documentation & Reporting: Accurately complete and submit all necessary documentation in a timely manner. This includes logbooks, equipment inspection reports, time tickets, manifests, trip records, and fuel and credit card receipts. Attend SECURE Energy safety meetings and ensure all daily safety paperwork is properly completed
- Adherence to Safety Protocols: Comply with all SECURE and customer-specific safety policies, procedures, and best practices always
- Effective Communication: Maintain clear and consistent communication with Dispatch daily to ensure efficient operations and high levels of customer service
- Preventative Maintenance & Waste Inspection: Perform minor preventative maintenance tasks, such as greasing, air filter checks, brake adjustments, and settings. Inspect waste materials to confirm alignment with manifest, recycle docket, and bill of lading descriptions
Skills, Experience & Qualifications
The individual in this role will have:
- Minimum of three years of professional driving experience within the transportation industry
- Strong understanding of hours-of-service regulations, load securement practices, and applicable driving laws
- Well-versed in Canadian geography, major highway systems, and remote oilfield locations
- Previous experience operating roll-off trucks, bed trucks, or winch tractors is required
- Possession of a valid Class 1 driver’s license
- A clean and current driver’s abstract is mandatory
- Flexibility to work a variety of shifts, including irregular or extended hours with variable start and end times.
The following are considered assets in this role:
- Knowledge of Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG) regulations, with specific expertise in placarding and manifest documentation
