ABOUT THE ROLE

As a String Line Setter, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the accurate and precise alignment of string lines for road construction projects. Working closely with the project team, you will assist in laying out and marking the lines and elevations for paving, grading, and other construction activities. This position is essential to maintaining the accuracy and quality of the road construction process, ensuring work is completed in compliance with project specifications and safety standards.

WHAT YOU’LL ACCOMPLISH

Set up and maintain string lines for road construction projects, ensuring accurate alignment and elevation for paving, grading, and other construction activities.

Collaborate with the project team, including surveyors and equipment operators, to ensure proper layout and alignment according to project plans.

Ensure that all string line setups meet project specifications, providing consistent and accurate guidance for construction teams.

Maintain and adjust string lines as needed throughout the duration of the project to ensure ongoing alignment and accuracy.

Inspect string line conditions regularly to ensure they remain taut, level, and undisturbed.

Demonstrate commitment to maintaining high safety standards and environmental compliance on the job site, promoting a culture of safety across all activities.

Assist in the setup and maintenance of other surveying equipment as required, ensuring precision in all measurement and alignment tasks.

Demonstrate a commitment to communicating, improving, and adhering to health, safety, and environmental policies in all work environments and areas. Promote a culture of safety and exhibit these behaviors.

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

Education: High school diploma or equivalent
Additional Education Preferred: Certification or training in construction-related fields.
Field of Study Preferred: Construction Management, Surveying, or other related fields.
Required Work Experience: Previous experience in road construction or similar fieldwork

Required Training/Certifications: Valid driver’s license; other certifications in surveying or construction may be beneficial.

Required Technical Skills: Familiarity with string line and survey equipment, including setup, maintenance, and adjustment for accurate alignment. Basic knowledge of road construction processes such as paving, grading, and layout activities.

Travel Requirements: Frequent travel between job sites within the City of Edmonton and surrounding areas

Additional Requirements:

Set up and maintain string lines for accurate alignment on paving and grading activities.

Ensure string lines meet project specifications and maintain proper alignment throughout construction.

Perform regular inspections of string line setup to ensure tautness and accuracy.

Assist with other surveying and layout tasks as required to support project accuracy.

Demonstrate knowledge and compliance with safety protocols and project specifications.

Maintain a clean and organized work environment and assist with other project needs as directed.

Successful candidates must adhere to all safety protocols and proper use of Holcim approved Personal Protection Equipment ("PPE"), including but not limited to respirators. Employees that are required to wear respirators must be clean-shaven where the respirator seal meets the face in order to pass the qualitative and quantitative fit test.
