Your Opportunity at SECURE Energy

The Terminal Operator will monitor conditions of the pipeline gathering system including product quality ensuring compliance with all safety and government regulations.  This individual will ensure that the pipeline system and tank farm blending operation is operating at a high level of efficiency. This is a dual-purpose role which includes monitoring a pipeline system via SCADA equipment, working outside and in a lab performing basic product quality tests.

Work Environment

This position is located outside of Slave Lake, AB and offers a 7-day on, 7-day off shift rotation, rotating between days and nights, with 12-hour workdays.

A Day in The Life

The responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to:

  • Operate and continuously monitor pipeline gathering system via SCADA control system with limited supervision
  • Ensure accurate on spec blending of multiple products
  • Execute daily pumping schedules and blending requirements
  • Recognize / Respond appropriately to abnormal operating conditions and emergency situations
  • Monitor leak detection and respond to alarm conditions
  • Log all pertinent day to day data
  • Communicate information exchange at end of shift
  • Prioritize and manage required console activities
  • Perform plant rounds and equipment checks
  • Conduct visitor and contractor orientations
  • Perform basic sampling and lab tests as required
  • Day to day site activities including minor maintenance activities and housekeeping
  • Orientate site visitors / contractors
  • Complete work permits, and job hazard assessments as required
  • Participate in Emergency Response Plan (ERP) training exercises
  • Participate as required in ERP manual updates
  • Participate as required in Operating manual updates
  • Participate as required in equipment book updates
  • Troubleshoot mechanical & electrical problems
  • Evaluate contractor performance
  • Participate on incident reporting and resolution
  • Duties and responsibilities of this position are subject to change as deemed necessary by the Facility Manager

Skills, Experience, & Qualifications

The individual in this role will have:

  • Intermediate understanding of SCADA systems and hardware
  • A minimum of 5 years pipeline operations and procedures experience
  • A High School Diploma, General Education Diploma or equivalent
  • A valid and acceptable Driver’s license and successful completion of Pre-employment testing
  • Current and valid safety tickets, including H2S Alive, First Aid, Confined Space Entry, WHIMS and TDG, Ground Disturbance, ICS
  • Must be able to clearly and accurately document their work and ensure consistent communication with the Facility Manager and other key stakeholders
  • Must be able to multi-task and demonstrate good decision-making skills
  • Proven ability to work well under limited amount of supervision
  • Must demonstrate excellent customer service skills and safe work practices
  • Must demonstrate strong teaching methods regarding all processes in the plant
  • Must demonstrate a high level of integrity and accountability to Lead Operator / Facility Manager
  • Ensure consistent and clear communication with the Facility Manager and other internal & external stakeholders
  • Demonstrate a commitment to safe and efficient operations of the pipeline system
