Customer Solutions Specialist

The PLC Specialist based in Nisku, AB will be part of the Ensign Drilling Solutions team responsible for the planning, design and delivery of drilling rig automation and performance systems. This position will use technical, analytical, and programming skills to assist in the development, deployment and maintenance of drilling rig automation systems and applications in a dynamic and fast-paced environment. The position will take a lead role on deployment projects, provide technical consulting, develop electrical controls systems, and provide remote technical support across global drilling divisions. JOB SUMMARYA Derrickhand works up the derrick on the drilling rig and guides drill string or casing. They also monitor tank levels, add chemicals and take care of shale shakers and mud pumps.INTERNAL RELATIONSHIPSRig Manager, Driller, Motorhand, Floorhand, Superintendent, Internal Service Personnel, HSE, HREXTERNAL RELATIONSHIPSClient Representatives, Third Party ServicesSPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES<ul><li>Derrickhands must use a harness and platform-climbing device to get to the proper position on the derrick when the drill string (lengths of pipe) or casing pipe is being raised from or lowered into the hole.&nbsp; Individuals who do not feel comfortable working in high places do not usually move into the position of Derrickhand.&nbsp; However those wishing to advance to the Driller position must have a good understanding of the Derrickhands duties.</li><li>When rig is making a trip (running drill pipe in and out of the hole), he works off of the monkey board.&nbsp; There, while coming out of the hole, he unlatches the elevators from the pipe and racks the pipe sequentially in the fingers after it has been set on the pipe-racking floor by the Floorhand.&nbsp; While running in the hole, he pulls the proper stand of pipe from the fingers and, when the elevator comes to his position latches it around the stand.&nbsp; Whenever a Derrickhand goes up the monkey board the blocks stay at the rig floor until the Derrickhand comes to the end of the driving board and signals to the Driller that his fall arrest system is hooked up.&nbsp; Under direction of the Driller, he conditions the drilling fluid and maintains the mud pumps and mud handling and treating equipment.</li><li>Performing all duties in a safe manner. Summary Ensign is seeking a skilled Drafter who will contribute to and oversee engineering design and drafting techniques, engineering drawings, and manufacturing techniques/processes, while applying their understanding of applicable industry standards and codes.Position Responsibilities<ul><li>Create SolidWorks schematics, 3-D models, drawings, layouts and support documentation</li><li>Complete necessary documentation</li><li>Assist with training, education, and support of coworkers (drafting, design, problem solving)</li><li>Review drawings/layouts/concepts of other coworkers for quality, accuracy, clarity, potential problems</li><li>Provide guidance and/or supervision to less experienced drafter designers/engineering technologists</li><li>Create bills of materials and oversee creation of drawing to support new designs</li><li>Prepare diagrams, test criteria, and critical assembly instructions</li><li>Analyze design reliability, serviceability, and manufacturability</li><li>Follow all applicable quality system procedures and quality work instructions</li><li>Comply with all Ensign industry, and government mandated practices, protocols, and procedures as applicable</li><li>Ensure that your actions do not create hazards to yourself, other workers, or members of the public</li><li>Refuse to work in unsafe conditions, perform work or operate motorized vehicles or equipment you are not adequately trained for</li><li>Report all near misses, hazards, incidents, accidents, occupational illnesses and injuries immediately to a supervisor or HSE representative through proper procedure</li><li>Attendance and participation in all applicable company safety meetings and training programs is mandatory</li><li>Know the location, type, and method of operation of emergency response equipment</li></ul>Qualifications<ul><li>Technical certification in Engineering Technology or 3 years drafting experience is required</li><li>Strong understanding of industry regulations and standards</li><li>Strong understanding of SolidWorks and AutoCAD software</li><li>Excellent understanding of data management software such as EPDM or Autodesk Vault</li><li>Working knowledge of quality programs (ISO/API)</li><li>Knowledge and familiarity with Drilling Rigs and oil field equipment</li><li>Strong Knowledge with manufacturing processes such as welding &amp; machining</li><li>Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to handle multiple priorities with a high degree of accuracy in a fast paced and dynamic environment is critical</li><li>Must be willing to travel and be available on weekends for emergency situations</li><li>Willing to work on rigs and onsite locations</li></ul>
