Overview

The primary objective of the Aggregates Production Lead Hand is to lead and coordinate the Aggregate Production Crushing/Screening Crews in accordance with the safety, environmental, quality and production targets for the Saskatoon Aggregates Market Area

Responsibilities:

Safety Culture:

  • Ensure the safe and effective operation of the production shift employees.
  • Develop and instill a site level safety culture through consistent engagement with employees and contractors with an objective of “zero” harm
  • Lead daily toolbox meetings to demonstrate commitment to workplace safety
  • Assist in the preparation for and participation in periodic health & safety site audits; and assist in the administration of the site Contractor Safety Management program, by completing site orientations, where required, and regularly auditing employee and contractor performance to ensure compliance to applicable local and regional health & safety policies.

Production Management:

  • Assist in production planning, driving, tracking and documenting production performance by completing daily and weekly plans.
  • Represent the production department when coordinating and organizing the teams work with other departments.
  • Provide leadership and ensure communication within a team environment to achieve the production objectives.

Environmental Management:

  • Assist in the development, implementation and maintenance of the site.
  • Assist in preparation for and participate in environmental site audits; and ensure all direct reports comply with operational standards.

Relationship with Others:

  • Reports to Production Supervisor
  • Supervises site production and maintenance for Aggregate production equipment
  • Works closely with the Production Supervisor, Operations Engineer, Area Safety Representatives, Land and Environmental Staff and the QA/QC team.
  • Collaborates with the maintenance team on the execution of mechanical and electrical maintenance on mobile equipment

Specific Accountabilities:

  • Safety: Provide a safe working environment for all employees via Daily Toolboxes, FLRA’s, HA’s, VPC, Near Miss, Safety Inspections, Safety Meetings, Plant Pride
  • Production/Quality: Meet the objectives via Daily production sheets, Primary Crusher report, Downtime reports, Maintenance management, complying with project QA/QC plan
  • Ensure cooperation and teamwork within the production teams.
  • Promote good relations and communication between the logistics, maintenance and production teams
  • Coordinate training for the production employees.
  • Ensure productivity, housekeeping and quality of work standards are maintained within the production department.
  • Achieve personal and departmental goals.

Reporting and relief:

  • Report on the team’s shift activities and observations, safety meetings and production level. Provide coverage for the Operations Manager and Production Supervisor. Assist Production Supervisor with complete weekly payroll for the production teams.

Qualifications:

Knowledge and Skills

  • Excellent leadership ability and interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to interact with plant and regional personnel.
  • Ability to work on many tasks at the same time while keeping excellent organizational skills.
  • Highly motivated with ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Demonstrated commitment to achieving organizational and personal goals.
  • Proven ability to work well in a team environment (co-workers, suppliers, etc.).
  • Well organized and systematic.
  • Must have crushing experience with portable crushers, portable screenings, portable conveyors and stackers and portable/permanent wash plants with the ability to service and repair as needed.
  • Experience operating excavator, loader, rock trucks, dozer and skid steers.
  • Maintenance: Perform daily inspections as part of our preventative maintenance program
  • Strong mechanical aptitude needed
  • Computer literacy an asset
  • Strong communicator (both oral & written)

Qualifications:

  • Grade 12 Diploma, College Degree in Engineering or Business would be definite assets.
  • A minimum of two years Supervisory/Managerial experience working in a similar environment
