Argus is a fully equipped machining, engineering and design facility based in Edmonton and Nisku, Alberta. We manufacture a diverse range of superior-quality OCTG products. Our facilities include over 100,000 square feet of engineering, manufacturing, threading, assembly, and test space. 


 

The successful candidate will be curious and have a troubleshooting mindset, combining experience and a problem-solving approach to repair and maintain equipment and machine tools.  

Location: Nisku, AB

Purpose:

Reporting to the Maintenance Supervisor, the Apprentice Millwright is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting and repairing equipment and machine tools within the Argus facilities.

Accountabilities:

Working with the Journeyman millwrights, the role accountabilities include, but are not limited to: 

  • Deliver maintenance and repair schedule as directed by the Maintenance Supervisors, ensuring quality and customer requirements are met.
  • Complete routine maintenance work on equipment and machine tools, as per the Argus preventative maintenance task sheets and schedules.
  • Evaluate machine tools and equipment condition, reporting concerns to the Maintenance Supervisors.
  • Troubleshoot and provide unscheduled repairs on equipment and machine tools which are not working. Advise downtime information to the Maintenance Supervisor.
  • Read and understand drawings, manuals and specifications to assess machine functionality and assist in making repairs and/ or adjustments to machine tools.
  • Advise the Maintenance Supervisor or Manager of machine parts and specialty tools to be ordered to keep machines and equipment running.
  • Operate all machines and equipment within the shops and use shop tools, as required, to determine and deliver maintenance needs.
  • Record measurements and write service reports to streamline future repairs.
  • Install, align, dismantle and move stationary industrial machinery and mechanical equipment according to layout plans.
  • Work with the team to identify and deliver improvements as required.

Position qualifications and experience:

  • Registered apprentice with completion of first year as a minimum
  • Machine shop experience and a 2nd trade as a Machinist will be an asset.
  • Experience, attitude and aptitude to diagnose and fix equipment and machine tools.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Knowledge of safe work practices, Quality Assurance requirements, and Continuous Improvement (Lean Manufacturing) principles and the ability to impart that knowledge to others.

Working conditions and physical requirements:

  • Machine shop environment with extended walking/ standing, limited sitting. 
  • Working wearing personal protective equipment.
  • Lifting regularly up to 50 lbs. without mechanical assistance.
