Overview

This is a seasonal position for an individual to lead, direct and coordinate asphalt Forepersons’ and crews activities and production schedules. The ideal candidate should be capable of meeting established safety, quality, and production standards.  

Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrates a commitment to a safe work environment. Understands the safety objectives of the organization and supports these efforts visibly.
  • Ensure the safe and timely execution of work on multiple projects with multiple crews and activities.
  • Lead foremen in coordinating daily tasks, including personnel, equipment, materials, productions, and schedules.
  • Ensure Crews are working safely and all Lafarge Safety documentation is completed daily.
  • Estimate work requirements to complete project assignments and schedule requirements.
  • Coordinate daily with the project manager, subcontractors, suppliers, engineers, inspectors, and owner's representatives.
  • In-depth knowledge of best paving practices to meet requirements and specifications.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of asphalt paving, including grade establishment and layout etc.
  • Conduct hazard assessments, tailgate meetings, and all other required documentation.
  • Interviewing and onboarding prospective new employees.
  • Ability to accurately read plans and specifications.
  • Ability to track and report daily job productions and job coding.
  • Ability to both lead by example and delegate responsibilities effectively within a team.
  • Efficiently operate support equipment.
  • Assist in executing the work as necessary.
  • Complete and submit all paperwork to review daily costs in a timely manner.
  • Coordinate and track material deliveries, trucking, equipment, and manpower.
  • Develop paving schedules, including material type/quantities of material meeting project specifications.
  • Planning and coordinating trucking start time, location, crew, and equipment.
  • Proficient and competent in heavy construction equipment.
  • Able to deal with difficult situations and resolve issues between co-workers, teammates, etc.
  • Able to utilize resources and crew members efficiently 
  • Monitor and approve daily field logs
  • Ensure that expectations are clearly defined to workers  
  • Experience in Bid2Win, Site-docs & Fleet watcher and asset.
  • Be willing to work in a team environment and assist co-workers or supervisors with other duties as required.

Qualifications and qualities:

The successful applicant will possess the following:

  • Class 5 driver’s license
  • 10 years of asphalt experience or 5+ years’ experience as lead hand, sub foreperson
  • Ability to proficiently operate and train on all paving equipment
  • Must be willing to work overtime, nights and in all weather conditions
  • High quality of workmanship
  • Effective leader, team player, and communicator
  • Strong conflict resolution skills
  • Be willing to work in a team environment and assist co-workers or supervisors with other duties as required
  • Multi-tasking ability; must be flexible and balance shifting priorities to meet deadlines
  • Excellent customer service skills – dedicated to meeting the expectations of internal and external customers
  • Must be flexible and balance shifting priorities to meet deadlines
  • Excellent leadership skills - must be able to motivate others and provide complete, direct and actionable feedback
  • Possess a commitment to and willingness to devote great effort and time in order to reach goals
  • Ability to make decision is a timely manner, sometimes with incomplete data and under tight deadlines and pressure

In addition to the above, the successful candidate will be expected to exercise sound judgment, work safely and communicate effectively in a team. This position is physically demanding and requires crouching, bending, lifting, and kneeling.
