Cardinal Concrete, a division of Holcim, is currently seeking a ticketed Heavy Duty Mechanic/Commercial Transport Mechanic to join our team in Squamish, BC. This role involves preventative maintenance and repair of a large fleet of commercial transport vehicles, including concrete mixer trucks, dump trucks, trailers, forklifts, and light-duty trucks.

WHAT YOU’LL ACCOMPLISH

Road test motor vehicles and test automotive systems and components.

Inspect, test, diagnose, adjust, repair, and replace parts and components of electrical, mechanical, and pneumatic systems.

Perform scheduled maintenance service.

Conduct concrete plant maintenance and repair.

Complete reports to record problems and work performed.

Estimate parts and labor costs.

Maintain safety, health, and environmental policies and procedures.

Keep accurate records of work completed, parts used, and costs.

Demonstrate a commitment to communicating, improving and adhering to health, safety and environmental policies in all work environments and areas. Promote a culture of safety and exhibit these behaviors.

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
Education: High School Diploma or equivalent
Work Experience: 3-5 years related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience
Required Training/Certifications: B.C. Certificate of Qualification, and/or Interprovincial Ticket as a Commercial Transport Mechanic or Heavy Duty Mechanic Ticket, Class 1 driver’s license or Class 3 with air, Province of British Columbia Commercial Vehicle Inspectors Certificate
Required Technical Skills: Knowledge of Hours of Service and Provincial truck driving regulations, ability to inspect, diagnose, and repair mechanical systems, welding and fabrication ability
Travel Requirements: Knowledge of the City of Squamish and surrounding area

Additional Requirements:

Ability to read, write, and speak English fluently.

Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel.

Forklift certification and experience is an asset.

First aid certification is an asset.

Must successfully pass a pre-employment medical assessment.

Proven ability to follow safe work procedures and complete field risk assessments.

Successful candidates must adhere to all safety protocols and proper use of Holcim-approved Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including but not limited to respirators. Employees required to wear respirators must be clean-shaven where the respirator seal meets the face to pass qualitative and quantitative fit tests.

Additional Information

Rate of Pay: $46.75

Hours: Flexible hours 40 hours per week, Tuesday through Saturday, 8:00 am – 4:30 pm

Premiums:

$1.00/hour for a Red Seal Certification

$1.00/hour for a tool allowance

$0.75/hour for a Class 1 or Class 3 drivers’ license

$0.75/hour for a Vehicle Inspection Certification

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

Work is completed in a large shop environment. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to moving mechanical parts; outside weather conditions; and extreme cold and/or heat. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to high. The employee is frequently required to sit, climb, and use hands to finger, handle, or feel. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, crawl, kneel, bend, and reach with hands and arms above their shoulders. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move anywhere up to 100 lbs. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision and depth perception.
