Overview:

The Facilities and Maintenance Engineer-in-Training is assigned to managing plant facilities equipment. They will be identifying, developing and implementing engineering and system projects to improve plant facilities condition, operability, equipment reliability, cost optimization, and compliance with environmental, regulatory & safety targets. In carrying out the duties of this position, a primary objective is to improve the safety and value of all company assets through increased reliability and lower operating costs while meeting plant operations requirements within budget guidelines.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage the plant facilities and facilities related equipment, ensure it is in good condition and available for operational requirements.
  • Manage and coordinate maintenance contractors for the buildings and facilities equipment.
  • Contract negotiations for facilities maintenance contractors
  • Identify, scope, plan and implement building and facilities equipment repairs/upgrade projects
  • Perform equipment reliability analysis on problematic equipment to identify and implement solutions
  • Guarantee and foster compliance with OH&S and environment policies. Tackle specific actions to support this.
  • Assist with inspection coordination on registered equipment such as personnel elevators
  • Assist with contractor supervision for plant air maintenance and repairs
  • Contribute to plant housekeeping and cleanliness.
  • Support/execute internal controls providing reasonable assurance of effective and efficient maintenance activities, including actions to prevent and detect fraud
  • Provide periodic on-call technical input and maintenance repair supervision
  • Facilities equipment includes freight & personnel elevators, building & plant HVAC systems, boilers & boiler water treatment, plant air compressors/air dryers, overhead doors, overhead hoisting equipment, non-process plumbing, building structural, exterior & interior repairs, office phone systems, and other items as assigned.

 Relationships with Other Jobs: 

  • Reports to the Maintenance Manager
  • Work with the capital project team to execute facilities upgrade projects as required
  • Work with preventive maintenance and with process teams in improving the reliability of the facilities equipment as required, developing preventative maintenance programs for it as required.
  • Assist maintenance manager in the development of the facilities portion of the maintenance budget and the tracking of performance indicators

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree holder in in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Registered as an EIT with APEGA
  • Work Experience: At least 1 year’s experience (co-op terms acceptable) in a heavy industry plant/production environment, large commercial building maintenance environment, or other background involving facilities maintenance/repair.
  • Required Computer and Software Skills: Excel, Word, Email.
  • Experience with maintenance contractor supervision
  • Experience with SAP
  • Experience with freight & personnel elevators
  • Experience with building maintenance including roofing, HVAC, and plumbing
  • Experience with overhead doors, hoisting equipment and boilers

  • Demonstrated problem solving skills and sound decision making based upon available information.
  • Occasional on-call periods as per rotation
  • Flexible, able to adjust to changing priorities and propose improvement actions.

  • Initiative and self-starting abilities; willing to take action to resolve problems.
  • Set and possess high work standards.
  • Flexibility with working hours and ability to manage stress, to provide assistance and to encourage the maintenance team in critical situations
