An exciting opportunity has become available to join our team as a Financial Accountant. You would be responsible for monitoring all financial data, preparing accurate statements, and ensuring compliance with legal regulations. This role encompasses budgeting, managing tax payments, support external auditors, and providing consultancy to senior managers for cost and revenue analyses. By meticulously managing our financial records and supporting investment decisions, you will play a vital role in our company’s success. Key Responsibilities:
• Gather and monitor financial data (e.g., sales revenues and liabilities): Collect and analyze financial data from various sources to ensure accurate and timely reporting. This includes tracking sales revenues, expenses, and liabilities to provide a comprehensive view of the company’s financial health.
• Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual statements (balance sheets and income statements): Compile and prepare financial statements that summarize the company’s financial position and performance over specific periods. Ensure these statements comply with accounting standards and provide insights into the company’s profitability and financial stability.
• Forecast costs and revenues: Develop financial forecasts to predict future revenues and expenses. Use historical data and market trends to create accurate projections that help in strategic planning and decision-making.
• Manage tax payments: Oversee the preparation and submission of tax returns to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal tax regulations. This includes calculating tax liabilities, ensuring timely payments, and staying updated on changes in tax laws.
• Liaise with External audits: Serve as the daily point of contact with external auditors to provide corporate knowledge to audit teams. Facilitate ongoing communication with appropriate groups to provide auditors with requested information.
• Assist with the preparation of budgets (for Vallen Canada and by department): Develop and manage budgets that allocate resources effectively across the organization. Work with department heads to create detailed budgets that align with the company’s financial goals and monitor adherence to these budgets.
• Monitor and report on accounting discrepancies: Identify and investigate discrepancies in financial records. Ensure that all transactions are accurately recorded and reported and take corrective actions to resolve any issues.
• Analyze financial trends: Monitor and analyze financial trends to identify patterns and insights that can inform strategic decisions. Use this analysis to provide recommendations for improving financial performance and achieving business objectives.
• Conduct detailed risk analyses to assess potential financial decisions: Evaluate potential financial opportunities by analyzing risks and returns. Provide recommendations based on thorough risk assessments to support informed decision-making.
• Perform month-end and year-end close processes, including journal entries, accruals, and adjustments: Execute the closing processes at the end of each month and fiscal year. This includes preparing and posting journal entries, recording accruals, and making necessary adjustments to ensure accurate financial reporting.
• Prepare variance analysis to compare actual results to budgeted figures: Conduct variance analysis to compare actual financial performance against budgeted figures. Identify reasons for variances and provide insights to management for corrective actions and future planning.
• Prepare balance sheet reconciliations: Reconcile balance sheet accounts to ensure that all transactions are accurately recorded and that the balances are correct. This involves verifying the accuracy of account balances and resolving any discrepancies.
• Prepare Regulatory Reporting for Government agencies.
• Ensure process documentation is maintained: Develop, update, and manage comprehensive documentation for all financial processes and procedures. This includes creating detailed manuals, guidelines, and flowcharts that outline each step of financial operations. Regularly review and revise documentation to reflect any changes in regulations, company policies, or procedures. Ensure that all documentation is easily accessible to relevant stakeholders and that it supports training and compliance efforts.
• Support branch managers with financial matters: Provide financial support and guidance to branch managers. Assist them with budgeting, financial reporting, and analysis to ensure that they have the information needed to make informed decisions and manage their operations effectively.
• Read, understand, and follow Vallen’s health, safety, and environment policies and all applicable OH&S legislation/regulations.
• Actively participate in Vallen’s health and safety management system, including training, audits, assessments, safety meetings, and inspections.
• Identify, control, and report workplace hazards including following WHMIS/TDG requirements and reporting near misses.
• Report workplace injuries immediately and participate in any return-to-work programs or requirements.
• Be fit for duty and physically capable of performing all required tasks.
• Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
• Proven work experience as a Financial Accountant or similar role: Demonstrated experience in a financial accounting position, showcasing the ability to handle the responsibilities outlined in the job description effectively.
• Advanced knowledge of MS Excel and accounting software: Proficiency in using MS Excel for financial analysis, reporting, and data management. Familiarity with accounting software (e.g., SXe, Cognos) to manage financial transactions and records efficiently.
• In-depth understanding of business accounting procedures: Comprehensive knowledge of accounting principles, practices, and procedures. Ability to apply this knowledge to ensure accurate financial reporting and compliance with regulations.
• Solid knowledge of accounting regulations: Awareness of local, state, and federal accounting regulations and standards (e.g., GAAP, IFRS). Ability to ensure that all financial activities comply with these regulations.
• Attention to detail: Strong numerical and analytical skills to perform accurate calculations and analyses. Attention to detail to ensure precision in financial reporting and data management.
• Strong time-management abilities: Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines efficiently. Prioritize work effectively to meet monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting requirements.
• High level of confidentiality: Commitment to maintaining the confidentiality of sensitive financial information. Understanding of the importance of data security and privacy in financial operations.
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance: Educational background in accounting, finance, or a related discipline, providing a solid foundation in financial principles and practices.
• Minimum of 5-7 years of related experience: Demonstrated experience in financial accounting roles, ideally within a similar industry or business environment. This experience should include a track record of managing financial data, preparing statements, conducting audits, and supporting financial decision-making processes. Experience with budgeting, tax management, and financial analysis is essential. The candidate should have progressively taken on more responsibilities and shown the ability to handle complex financial tasks and projects.
• Working towards a CPA designation: Actively pursuing a Chartered Public Accountant (CPA) designation, demonstrating a commitment to advancing professional knowledge and skills in accounting.
• High level of attention to detail.
