Black Diamond Group’s Finance has a full-time position for General Manager, Tax.
This role is hybrid - in-office with 20% flexibility to work from home.
Black Diamond Group has a unique opportunity for a General Manager, Tax to join its Accounting and Finance Team. Reporting to the Executive Vice President & Chief Financial Officer, this role is responsible for tax compliance, tax planning and tax accounting for the Canadian, US and Australian business units within the organization. This role will provide the successful candidate with a great opportunity to use their multinational tax expertise to work within a growing, highly driven, geographically dispersed company. The position will be based in Black Diamond’s Calgary, Alberta head office.
Responsibilities
- Provide leadership and support to manage the performance, development and engagement of the Taxation team
- Develop and implement tax planning strategies in Canada, US and Australia
- Proactively seek out and bring forward solutions to mitigate tax risk and identify opportunities to optimize tax obligations
- Ensure compliance with the organization’s internal controls in relation to tax and relevant accounting and tax policies
- Prepare and review Canadian income tax returns for all entities, including partnership returns, T2s, T106s and T1134s to ensure timely filing, accuracy and completeness or reporting
- Oversee the preparation of the US corporate income tax returns for all entities
- Effectively manage and assist in the preparation of the quarterly and annual tax provisions for foreign and domestic entities including the provision of adequate support for financial statement reporting and note disclosure
- Coordinate with internal and external auditors to review quarterly and year-end working papers, as well as supporting documentation
- Review of all monthly, quarterly and annual indirect tax filings
- Provide indirect, property and income tax support/advice to the business units
- Provide support and responses for any federal, provincial, state and county income, property and sales tax audits
- Research, prepare and/or review memos and internal communications in support of tax technical positions taken in statutory filings and related to proposed or newly enacted legislation and tax law changes
- Oversee and manage tax work outsourced to third party tax advisors in partial support of the above-mentioned duties
- Stay up to date with tax legislation
- Support sales tax system implementation to streamline processes
- Other ad-hoc research and analytics as required
Working knowledge Qualifications
- Accounting designation required and a minimum 10 years of experience in tax and accounting
- Completion of the CPA Canada In-depth Tax Program
- A strong understanding of Canadian and US sales taxes
- Self-starter and ability to work in a fast paced, dynamic environment
- Demonstrated leadership abilities with capacity to gain buy-in, mentor and influence across all levels of the organization and its stakeholders
- A strong understanding of Canadian, US and Australian corporate income tax, including Canada’s foreign affiliate tax regime and associated cross border tax issues
- A strong understanding of accounting for income tax under IFRS
- Excellent written and verbal communication skill
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Word, Corporate TaxPrep and TaxPrep Forms
- Working knowledge of OneSource software is preferred
