General Statement of Duties:

A key member of the Kobold Engineering group responsible for hardware development with a strong focus on design considerations for high temperature electronics. Strong communication skills and report writing ability, as well as experience in lab testing, are essential for this role.

Required Skills / Expertise:

Summary of duties (duties may include, but are not limited to the following):

Design, develop and test hardware products using Altium Designer, ORCAD, Allegro, Cadence, KICAD and Eagle.

Setup design rules and review data sheets for specifications relevant to downhole tools.

Determine suitable parts for downhole tools and test and qualify parts.

Design and test switching power supplies, and work with mechanical engineers to ensure part models and mounting are integrated properly.

Perform signal conditioning for ADCs, including strain gauges and analog inputs.

Design and implement protection circuits for high temperature environments, including transient voltage suppressors, over current and ESD.

Execute design calculations, including crystal oscillator circuit design, power budget calcs, thermal resistance and power dissipation based on the strong understanding of firmware/ software.

Perform lab testing and report results in a clear and concise manner.

Develop test plans and effectively communicate results to cross-functional teams.

Follow and abide by all current and future Kobold policies, procedures, and processes.

Other duties as assigned from time to time.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Familiar with various interfaces, including SPI, I2C, CAN, Ethernet, USB.

Knowledge of data sheet review for relevant specifications.

Familiar with switching power supply design and testing.

Knowledge of signal conditioning for ADCs and various interfaces.

Understanding of protection circuits for high temperature environments.

Experienced with lab testing and writing detailed reports.

Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.

Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize, problem-solve, and multitask.

Thorough and consistent attention to detail.

Ability to work independently, as well as collaborate effectively with a full cross-section of personnel within the company and with customers.

Excellent computer skills and strong knowledge of Microsoft Office products.

Strong leadership skills and the ability to drive collaboration across a multifunctional team.

 Education and Experience:

Must have an engineering degree, technologist diploma, or equivalent expertise form work experience.

5+ years of hardware development experience.

Experience with Altium Designer, ORCAD, Allegro, Cadence, KICAD and Eagle.

Strong understanding of design considerations for high temperature electronics.

Experience in working with mechanical engineers for part models and mounting.
