Your Opportunity at SECURE

SECURE is currently recruiting for an operator to join our Rail Emergency Response team located in Red Deer, Alberta. Prospective individuals will require Equipment Operating experience, preferably with excavator/material handlers and shears. This position is not a camp position and requires the candidate to be local to the Red Deer, Alberta area. This role requires on-call availability, extended working hours, and flexibility to be away for two weeks at a time occasionally. This position must adhere to our safety program and work as a contributing member of the team.

The Team

The Rail Services Team oversees and coordinates rail derailment emergency response and facility operations. In the event of a derailment, the team directs the deployment of response teams and equipment. They collaborate closely with external stakeholders, including emergency responders, regulatory agencies, and rail companies to ensure a unified and effective response to incidents.

Work Environment

This position requires 24/7 on call availability and a willingness to work in extreme weather conditions. 

A Day in The Life

The responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to:

  • Operate equipment while adhering to all safe work practices and procedures
  • Follow Secures’ operating standards and procedures
  • Clean and lubricate equipment and refill equipment tanks
  • Conduct pre-operational checks on equipment. Complete walk-arounds, safety checks and ensure equipment is running properly
  • Secure special attachments to equipment
  • Operate two-way radios and other communication when required
  • Minor repairs to equipment. Report any necessary reports to the supervisor
  • Commitment to working safely and following safety protocol

Skills, Experience & Qualifications

Technical

  • Ability to accurately maintain inspections on a daily basis;
  • Strong mechanical knowledge with respect to the maintenance, servicing and repair of excavators;
  • Ability to complete minor servicing and maintenance of excavators , including but not limited to, greasing, replacement of air filters, and settings;
  • Ability to safely operate excavators through difficult weather conditions and challenging work site environments;
  • Prior experience operating heavy equipment (excavators, shears);
  • Ability to perform physical tasks, including lifting, shoveling, moving containers and other heavy materials;
  • Strong work ethic and ability to work long days and occasional overnights; and
  • Fit-for-Work each day.

  • Ability to communicate effectively and express thoughts and ideas in a clear manner
  • Good listening skills along with ability to accept and follow direction
  • Open and honest with team members as it relates to all aspects of the work
  • Ability to work alone and cover for supervision when required
  • Self-starter with the ability to understand operation objectives and can complete tasks with limited supervision
