The Structural Lead Hand Foreperson will lead the Forepersons and construction crews on various projects, ensuring safety, quality, and productivity. The ideal candidate has expertise in bridge construction, engineering drawings, and site plans. Responsibilities include promoting a Safety-First culture, overseeing daily activities, managing schedules, ensuring compliance with BCMoT standards, and reporting project progress to the Superintendent. The role requires strong leadership, interpersonal skills, and the ability to make independent decisions in a fast-paced environment. Flexibility in work location and reliable transportation are required.
What You'll Accomplish:
• Promote, lead, and execute a Safety-First culture for all employees, sub-contractors, and consultants
• Responsible for field operations, including supervision of bridge construction work - directing activities of workers, construction inspection and field coordination activities
• Promote safety in all activities and engage in safe work plan development, hazard assessments, FLRAs and mentorship with crew
• Provide guidance to team members by leading safety meetings and inspections
• Track and report project, quality control, resource requirements and customer or employee relations to the General Superintendent
• Oversee the job site and ensure carpenters and laborers' compliance with all assignments, project policies, and procedures.
• Drive quality, efficiency, and productivity of work crews
• Direct carpenters and labourers on productivity issues and monitor the work performance, working with the crews to overcome challenges
• Follow project plans and budgets while ensuring forepersons and crews perform to meet production goals
• Understand the scope and sequencing of work, support carpenters, forepersons, lead hands and labourers to plan and prioritize the work, effectively redirect crews and equipment to assigned tasks and minimize downtime on sites
• Contribute to the development of a construction plan
• Responsible for supervising multiple crews and subcontractors
• Plan materials, equipment needs and work schedule
• Review and understand the projects’ plans and specifications to support job set up activities
• Document daily field activities and provide technical input to identify and resolve design problems
• Responsible for ordering and coordinating equipment and materials to complete production on budget and schedule
What We're Looking For:
• Must have ability to travel to multiple worksite locations
• 8+ years’ experience in a supervisory position within the construction industry: bridge construction experience is a requirement
• Proven understanding of interpreting engineering drawings, documents and site plans
• Experience and knowledge of bridge construction methods, materials, and equipment.
• Strong interpersonal skills in communicating with a large team
• Flexibility to work primarily in the field, and occasionally in an office, reliable transportation between sites
• Proficient in construction software and project management tools.
• Knowledge of BCMoT construction standards ®ulations and safety standards.
• Ability to work independently and make decisions in a fast-paced construction environment.
