The Opportunity:

As a Materials Lab Manager you will oversee the materials laboratory. You will lead a team of materials laboratory resources and oversee failure analysis investigations, perform metallurgical failure analysis of components that failed in service. You will have solid background in team management, failure analysis, and material characterization.

Your Responsibilities:

In alignment with the Lifting Solutions culture, mission, vision and values, you will be responsible to:

  • Effectively schedule and allocate laboratory equipment and personnel to balance multiple test requests and priorities.
  • Lead and manage junior engineers and technologists by assigning tasks, setting priorities, and ensuring quality and timely execution of failure analysis and other critical tests in supporting R&D activities and continuous improvement projects.
  • Coordinate tests with external labs as needed.
  • Conduct metallurgical failure analysis of components that failed in service or in-house equipment and product failures.
  • Perform hands on material testing and evaluation using equipment such as optical microscope, hardness and microhardness testers and other relevant equipment.
  • Provide technical support to a broad range of personnel including internal engineering, manufacturing, and field operations, as well as clients and suppliers.
  • Facilitate structured discussions on failure analysis findings with the engineering team, providing technical insights and contributing to the continuous improvement of product design within R&D.

Your Qualifications and Experience:

  • Technologist/engineering diploma from a recognized college or university. Bachelor’s Degree in Materials/Metallurgical Engineering or Technical Diploma in Materials/Welding Engineering Technology is preferred.
  • Significant experience in industrial laboratory/manufacturing environment related to materials engineering, quality assurance or a related role.
  • Proven ability to manage technical teams, set priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Experience conducting metallurgical failure analysis and materials testing and evaluation.
  • Strong understanding of materials behavior, testing methods, heat treatment, and quality control processes
  • Knowledge and experience with corrosion engineering, surface engineering, and tribology are assets.
  • Excellent communication skills, with ability to create clear technical reports and present findings to diverse audiences.
  • Experience in Artificial Lift Systems for oil and gas is an asset
