The Role

Pason is seeking a Mechanical Design Intern for a 16-month internship from May 2026 until August 2027. Interns can expect to see their projects from initial design, through prototyping, and testing, and on to full production in a single work term. Pason prides itself on giving full product design responsibility to its interns, thereby allowing them to have a powerful learning experience while on their work term. This position is very similar to a junior engineering position.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Work with field technicians, peers within the team, and others on gathering specific requirements for a design request
  • Use SolidWorks to design parts and assemblies as well as prepare drawings for machine shops
  • Work with machine shops and part vendors to establish pricing and build prototypes of designs
  • Prepare test fixtures and conduct tests on the design against established requirements
  • Provide support to engineers from the Research & Development Hardware team and field technicians
  • Test new and existing products and theories
  • Brainstorm new product ideas
  • Write and modify assembly procedures and bill-of-materials tables for outsourced manufacturing
  • Operate various tools (including a milling machine) for rapid in-house prototyping
  • On some occasions, perform field installations and rig trials
  • Analyze product failures from the field to assess improvement opportunities

  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Excellent interpersonal interaction skills
  • Strong mechanical design skills (machine component design, strength of materials, heat transfer, fluid mechanics, corrosion, drawing, dimension tolerances etc.) are an asset
  • Strong commitment to quality
  • Experience with SolidWorks would be an asset
  • Uploading samples of technical documents and SolidWorks files to demonstrate skills is beneficial

Education

  • Currently enrolled in 3rd year curriculum in Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering
