Mechanical Engineering Technologist
General Statement of Duties:
The Mechanical Engineering Technologist will provide critical support in design, drafting, and documentation for Kobold’s engineering team. This role is essential for ensuring that new products are well-documented, meet design requirements, and are ready for production. Reporting to the R&D Engineering Manager, the Technologist will manage the creation of 3D models and 2D drawings in SolidWorks, support project management, and assist with testing and validation activities.
Required Skills / Expertise:
Summary of duties (duties may include, but are not limited to the following):
Create and manage detailed SolidWorks 3D models and 2D drawings for oilfield equipment, ensuring compliance with mechanical drafting standards.
Manage SolidWorks PDM systems and ensure integration with ERP systems to maintain organized and accessible design documentation.
Collaborate closely with engineers to support design projects, providing high-quality CAD models and helping to resolve design challenges.
Assist with the compilation and organization of design documentation for both new and existing products, ensuring traceability and compliance with company standards.
Participate in shop testing and field-testing activities to validate designs.
Provide support in the assembly of technical manuals, including operations and maintenance instructions.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Expertise in SolidWorks and familiarity with PDM systems.
Strong understanding of mechanical drafting standards and engineering principles.
Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously, with strong attention to detail.
Excellent communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
Hands-on experience in shop testing is a plus.
Education and Experience:
Diploma in Mechanical Engineering Technology or related field.
3+ years of experience in a mechanical design role.
Experience in oilfield or hydraulic fracturing and completions equipment design is a significant asset.
SolidWorks certification is preferred.
