Payroll Specialist

An exciting opportunity has become available to join our team as a Payroll Specialist.
Key Responsibilities:
- Administers & processes bi-weekly payroll to include, but not limited to: loading & auditing hours, processing and paying monthly incentives and commissions, calculating checks, expenses, allowances or other special pay
- Maintains and updates time
- Prepare year-end employee tax slips and/or forms and submitting government filings to meet deadlines (eg: T4s & T2200s).
- ADP Workforce Now Reporting.
- Assist with areas of improvement within the payroll process.
- Review associate records with supporting documentation for new hires, current associates and terminated associates.
- Prepares manual checks on an as-needed
- Facilitates off cycle payrolls for special payments such as
- Ensures accurate and timely processing of payroll updates including new hires, terminations, leave of absences and pay rate
- Establishes efficient and effective payroll and benefit processing while adhering to
- Government Annual Returns for example: BC EHT, ON EHT etc.
- Process and reconcile remittances such as source deductions and RRSPs/DPSPs/TFSAs.
- Maintain records of all vacation entitlements and usage, outstanding lieu time and sick days taken within the payroll system.
- Collaborates and works cross functionally with other HR team members and
- Read, understand, and follow Vallen’s health, safety, and environment policies and all applicable OH&S legislation/regulations.
- Actively participate in Vallen’s health and safety management system, including training, audits, assessments, safety meetings, and inspections.
- Identify, control, and report workplace hazards including following WHMIS/TDG requirements and reporting near misses.
- Report workplace injuries immediately and participate in any return-to-work programs or requirements.
- Be fit for duty and physically capable of performing all required tasks.
- All other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree preferred in a related field (e.g., Accounting, Business Administration, Human Resources, etc.) coupled with a minimum of 3-5 years of experience in a Payroll/HR Shared Services environment. Relevant experience should include:
- 3+ years of experience with payroll and time software systems, specifically ADP Workforce Now required.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and Adobe Acrobat with advanced Excel skills.
- Current Canadian Payroll Association certification (PCP or CPM) or equivalent work experience.
- High degree of professionalism, integrity, and demonstrated ability to uphold confidentiality and work with sensitive job and pay-related data.

- Must have a natural customer service orientation with keen attention to detail and accurac
- Demonstrated ability to resolve moderately complex
- Comfortable with heady data entry while ensuring a high accuracy
- Uses initiative and self-direction and applies knowledge and sound judgement to effectively resolve
- FPP (Fundamentals Payroll Professional) or CPP (Certified Payroll Professional).
- Experience within a complex payroll environment of 400+ employees.
