ABOUT THE ROLE

The Reliability Specialist is primarily responsible for the maintenance Planning and Inspections on the Quarry Fixed Plant crushing system. This position has direct reports of 2 mechanics and 1 millwright and reports directly to the Preventative Maintenance Head and indirectly to the Quarry department.
In carrying out the duties of this position, a primary objective is to improve the value of all Company assets at the Exshaw Cement plant through increased reliability and lower operating costs while allowing the operation of the equipment to meet production requirements within budget guidelines.

WHAT YOU’LL ACCOMPLISH

  • Successfully plan and schedule weekly, monthly, and long-term maintenance activities, balancing resources with production needs, while ensuring the timely completion of critical tasks and projects.
  • Coordinate major and annual outages effectively, ensuring all long lead spares and services are tracked, and consolidating shutdown planning to guarantee efficient and smooth execution.
  • Manage inventory efficiently by generating timely purchase requests for materials and spare parts, collaborating closely with stores and purchasing teams to maintain optimal inventory levels without disrupting plant operations.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards (e.g., ASTM, CSA), resulting in consistently high-quality maintenance outcomes, while maintaining full adherence to company policies and procedures.
  • Monitor and improve maintenance performance by tracking KPIs and implementing continuous improvements that enhance productivity, quality, and housekeeping within the team.
  • Ensure the equipment parts catalog (both in SAP and equipment folders) reflects all plant equipment changes and obtain proper resource for future upgrades so that the catalog continues to be a reliable reference tool for the whole plant
  • Drive cost-effective maintenance activities by optimizing resources, controlling maintenance work order costs, and staying within budgetary constraints, leading to overall cost savings for the organization.
  • Exemplify safety leadership by ensuring the team follows safe work practices, coordinating subcontractor activities, and managing accident/incident reporting with full regulatory compliance.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to communicating, improving and adhering to health, safety and environmental policies in all work environments and areas. Promote a culture of safety and exhibit these behaviors.


WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
Education: Bachelor’s Degree
Field of Study Preferred: Mechanical Engineering
Required Work Experience: Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in crushing operations

Additional Requirements:

  • Extensive experience in mechanical inspections
  • Proven experience in planning major work and plant shutdowns using computer software
  • Experience with Computerized Mechanical Maintenance System (SAP)
  • Knowledge of problem solving techniques (i.e. Pareto Analysis, Root Cause Failure Analysis, etc.)
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to interact with plant personnel.
  • Proven ability to work well in a team environment (co-workers, suppliers, etc.)
  • Highly motivated with ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Well organized and systematic with the ability to multi-task
  • Strong computer skills.
  • Successful candidates must adhere to all safety protocols and proper use of Holcim approved Personal Protection Equipment ("PPE"), including but not limited to respirators. Employees that are required to wear respirators must be clean shaven where the respirator seal meets the face in order to pass the qualitative and quantitative fit tests
