Senior Mechanical Engineer (5-10 Years Experience)
General Statement of Duties:
The Senior Mechanical Engineer will play a critical role in both R&D initiatives and sustaining engineering projects. Reporting to the R&D Engineering Manager, this position will focus on leading mechanical design efforts for new oilfield equipment, providing technical support for operations, and collaborating with other departments to drive product innovation and improvements. The Senior Engineer is expected to bring seasoned expertise in SolidWorks, FEA, and manufacturing processes, ensuring that designs are production-ready and meet both technical and financial objectives.
Required Skills / Expertise:
Summary of duties (duties may include, but are not limited to the following):
Lead the conceptualization and detailed design of new oilfield and hydraulic fracturing and completions equipment, providing expert-level SolidWorks CAD models and 2D drawings, complete with BOMs.
Provide timely engineering support to operations by troubleshooting design and manufacturing issues and recommending solutions.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including manufacturing, sales, and operations, to ensure that designs meet all technical, operational, and market requirements.
Conduct field and shop tests to validate new designs, working hands-on to evaluate performance and ensure designs meet operational standards.
Support R&D efforts by researching new technologies and materials, driving innovation, and improving existing products.
Document and manage design changes, ensuring compliance with company document control procedures.
Represent engineering in customer meetings when required, providing technical expertise and helping to build strong customer relationships.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Advanced proficiency in SolidWorks, with extensive experience in 3D modeling and FEA.
Strong understanding of mechanical engineering principles and problem-solving methodologies.
Hands-on testing and validation experience, with a practical approach to field and shop testing.
Excellent communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across multiple departments.
Strong organizational and time management skills, capable of handling multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
Thorough understanding of industry materials, manufacturing methods, and industry standards.
Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
5–10 years of experience in mechanical design, ideally within the oil and gas industry.
Eligible for Professional Engineer (P.Eng) registration in Alberta.
Extensive experience in the design and development of drilling or hydraulic fracturing and completions equipment is preferred.
