
Import - Export Specialist
Job Summary
The Import/Export specialist provides trade and logistics support to the entire company. In this role, the successful candidate will be responsible to provide import/export process efficiency, arranging Air/Ocean transportation and work jointly with logistics distribution services groups to ensure the movements of goods are compliant with Canadian Import and Export regulations. The candidate will be a self-starter, positive, an excellent communicator, highly motivated, adaptable, strongly analytical, and possess proven organizational and multi-tasking skills. This individual will act as a point of contact for import/export transactions and will provide day-to-day support to Operations and outside contracted vendors. Relationships
Reports to Import/Export Manager and maintains a close working relationship with the following;
- Business Product Line
- Customs Brokers and Freight Forwarders
- Finance, Procurement, Sourcing
- TCC (Trade Compliance) / QHSE (Quality, Health, Safety and Environment) Departments
Responsibilities and Duties
Essential Import/Export
- Ability to assign correct Harmonized Tariff to all products imported and exported based on technical literature provided internally and from external sources.
- Responsible and accountable to ensure all import tariff codes are correctly applied in to all incoming and outgoing shipments.
- Analyze import and export documentation for incoming and outgoing shipments and ensure accuracy of documentation and verify compliance standard.
- Responsible to have Import and export systems updated as needed or locally defined in the country including data and document storage where necessary.
- Provide consulting and advice on tariff classification, duties, origins, valuations, import / export and trade controls including forms, permits and licenses
- Responsible to analyze customs duty exemptions and free trade agreements where necessary to reduce cost of imports and exports.
- Ensure goods and commodities move in compliance with customs and OGD/OGA regulations, and internal Company process and procedures
- Responsible and accountable for performance factors related to SLA in the country.
- Manage day to day customs brokers operations and ensure performance are monitored, targeting a lead and cost reductions.
- Deal with customs and local authorities for day to day operational issues.
- Comply with customs requirements and manage customs duty costs to a minimal exposure; regularly conduct regulatory self- audits / compliance to the latest customs regulations; keep customs documents in proper filing, maintenance, and retention, file customs entry adjustments with brokers, where required
- Manage day to day Customs and Trade Compliance issues and reports as per compliance standard.
- Act as a customs knowledge holder for local organization in the country.
- Attend local import and export training programs with local authorities focusing to improve knowledge.

Essential International Logistics
- Responsible to arrange and manage International Logistics movements via Air/Sea Cargo
- Arrange / prepare export customs documents required for cargo movement
- Negotiate with freight forwarders for freight costs
- Perform the record keeping of logistics documentation as per the policies & procedures
- Ensure logistics compliance to all regulatory requirements, company policies and import/export operations
- Be a point of contact and reliable source of timely information for Logistics shipments
- Handles special projects, as assigned.
Minimum Job Qualifications
- 4+ years of analytical work related to customs and trade, and International Logistics including: HS Classification, Import/Export customs and trade, International Logistics (Air/Sea)
- CCS (Certified Customs Specialist) – preferred
- CIFFA (Canadian International Freight Forwarders Association) certification – preferred
- Experience within the oil & gas industry considered a very good plus
- Bachelor or Master Degree in Supply Chain, Engineering, Manufacturing – considered a plus
- Strong PC skills, particularly with Excel spreadsheets, word-processing, and database management is essential
- Strong knowledge of SAP System will be an asset
- Strong experience planning projects, coordinating multiple priorities, delivering on critical deadlines
- Strong knowledge in identifying DG (Dangerous Goods), Dual Use and Controlled materials - preferred
- Team player, strong self-starter with excellent verbal, written, and multi-tasking skills with strict attention to detail
- Ability to support after-hours on-call duties when required
- Ability to drive a light vehicle and/or travel when required
- Candidates must be able to legally work and reside in Canada, without sponsorship.
