Overview
Plant summer students are responsible for aiding in all areas of the concrete pipe plant. They prepare areas and forms for daily work, set up cages to be poured and finish concrete pipe and manholes. They participate in housekeeping and other various tasks throughout the plant. A high level of safety practices must be followed at all times.
Responsibilities:
Complete Field Level Risk Assessments before beginning each job
Keep equipment maintained and clean
Follow all confined space and safe work procedures
Receive oral instructions to determine work assignments.
Perform physical activities that require considerable use of your arms and legs and moving your whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling of materials
Assist machine operators, crane operators, welders, and other workers.
Contribute to maintaining high-quality standards in the production of pipes, essential for internal projects and operations.
Remove, clean & prepare pallets and headers for daily production
Position or dismantle forms for pouring concrete
Transport raw materials, finished products and equipment throughout plant manually or using powered equipment
Assist in the fabrication, shaping, and finishing of concrete pipes within the facility, ensuring proper alignment and smooth surfaces.
Clean and remove excess concrete debris from pipe molds and other equipment
Learn to operate cranes, forklifts and other equipment as necessary
Qualifications:
- Education Required: High School Diploma
- Years of Experience: 0 years
Specific Experience
Prior concrete experience would be an asset
Prior experience in a pipe plant would be an asset
Carpentry experience would be an asset
Forklift experience would be an asset
Crane experience would be an asset
Welding Experience would be an asset

Safety Oriented
Willingness to learn new things
Able to lift 50 lbs
Use of hand tools such as slide-hammers, sledge hammers, concrete drill
Willing to work early morning shifts, and overtime when needed including Saturdays
Able to work in a fast paced, high production environment
Able to work unsupervised
Able to work well with others
Good communication skills
Compensation:
This is a unionized position that is subject to negotiated rates. Rate of pay is determined by experience and skill level. The rate can also include shift differential depending on the time and day of the shift.
